Photo: One in Four Mammals at Risk of Extinction



One in four mammal species is at risk of extinction, according to a comprehensive survey released in October 2008 by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

Marine mammals—such as the Caspian seal seen above—face even steeper odds, with one in three species at risk of disappearing, according to the study.
