Photo: Macaque Genome Deciphered; May Herald Medical Breakthroughs

A rhesus macaque monkey waits at the Southwest National Primate Research Center in Texas.

A female from the center provided the DNA sample used in the recently completed sequencing of the macaque genome, which will help scientists better understand primate evolution and the genetic traits that make humans unique.
