Photo: New Expedition to Study Mysterious Deep-Sea Corals

A snapshot taken off the Aleutian Islands near Alaska shows the tremendous variation of deep-sea corals.

Scientists have announced a major study of these mysterious organisms, which promise to fill in large gaps in the marine evolutionary and climatic record.
