Photo: Under-Ice Volcano Eruption Spewed Ash Over Antarctica

A high-resolution Landsat satellite image offers scientists a birds-eye view of some of Antarctica's glaciers.

New technology that can penetrate Antarctica's ice sheet has revealed evidence of a 2,000-year-old volcanic eruption underneath the continent'.

The heat from the volcano may still be melting the base of the sheet and could be partially responsible for the fast flow of a nearby glacier, scientists say.
