Photo: Pluto to Get Partners? New Definition of "Planet" Proposed



At least three new planets would be added to the solar system according to a proposed definition of "planet" unveiled today by the International Astronomical Union. The new planets—shown here in an artist's conception to scale against Earth—include Pluto's large moon Charon; the asteroid Ceres; and 2003 UB313, nicknamed Xena.
