Photo: Africa Farms Get Massive Pledge to Spur "Green Revolution"

A farmer works to clear a field in northern Uganda. Two major U.S. philanthropic groups are pledging a total of $150 million (U.S.) over five years to bring a "green revolution" to Africa's farms and increase the productivity of fields.

But some experts fear Africa's seemingly intractable political and economic problems might derail the process. Farmers in this region of Uganda live in refugee camps and must risk attack from rebels to tend their crops.
