Ultralight-aircraft pilot Joe Duff of the nonprofit Operation Migration guides endangered whooping cranes in 2004.

The project's 2006 class completed the Wisconsin-to-Florida journey on December 19—one more step toward the reestablishment of a migrating population of the birds in the eastern U.S.
