The big cats' populations have plummeted amid a flourishing trade in illegal tiger parts along with habitat destruction, experts say.

A new initiative announced on June 9, 2008, by the World Bank aims to reverse the decline by bringing together nonprofits, governments, and local people to promote tiger conservation.
