Photo: Extinct Galapagos Tortoise Could Be Resurrected



The Floreana species of Galápagos Island tortoise is one of four giant tortoise species (one pictured above in 1969) that have gone extinct over the past 150 years.




The tortoise may now have a second chance. Scientists have discovered that genes from the extinct tortoise can be found in modern tortoises on the islands.
