Photo: Florida Keys Evacuation Ordered for Hurricane Ike

A NASA satellite image shows Hurricane Ike approaching the Bahamas on September 4, 2008, at 10:40 a.m. EST.

On September 5, Ike was forecast to hit the low-lying Florida Keys island chain as a major hurricane, prompting Keys officials to issue an evacuation order for the islands.
