Photo: Great Turtle Race Mixes Competition, Conservation

Eleven satellite-tagged leatherback sea turtles will "race" from their feeding grounds in Canada to breeding areas in the Carribbean as part of the 2009 Great Turtle Race, an online event launched on April 16.

The race aims to raise awareness of the threats facing the sea turtles (above, a leatherback nests on a beach in Trinidad).
