Photo: High-Tech Sound Detectors to Warn Ships of Right Whales



A screenshot captured at 3:41 p.m. EST on August 8, 2008, shows the majority of buoys in a new, high-tech underwater listening system have detected nearby right whales.

The network was put into place to notify ship captains of collision risks to help save the critically endangered animals.
