Photo: Judas Was "Demon" After All, New Gospel Reading Claims

The Gospel of Judas document remained hidden for more than 1,700 years before it was discovered in Egypt in the 1970s.

An early interpretation of the gospel released by the National Geographic Society in 2006 paints Judas as a close friend to Jesus, and shows Judas giving Jesus up to enemy soldiers only because Jesus instructed Judas to do so.

But biblical scholar April DeConick is calling that translation wrong, saying the apostle is depicted in the gospel as a negative force, and "as evil as ever."
