Photo: NASA "Moon Bombing" a Hit, But LCROSS Impact Invisible?

Captured with the probe's satellite, this view of a crater on the moon is just about the last thing LCROSS "saw" before crashing into a crater on October 9, 2009.

Four minutes earlier the spacecraft had witnessed the impact of a spent rocket that LCROSS had shot toward the moon.

The mission lacked the expected billows of debris, but NASA says LCROSS was a scientific success.
