Fresh from feeding on an elk, an 18-month-old male wolf howls in Yellowstone National Park in a January 22, 2007 image by U.S. photographer Cindy Goeddel. The wolf would soon become the youngest alpha male in any Yellowstone pack to date.

After 69 years without wolves inhabiting the park, Goedell said in a statement, "the howl of a wild wolf in Yellowstone is both miraculous and extraordinary."
