Madison, Wisconsin, July 9, 2009--A new view of the pandemic H1N1 flu virus (red) shows its unusual filamentous shape, according to University of Wisconsin researchers. Recently branded a pandemic by the World Health Organization, the so-called swine flu—shown recently "budded" from infected cells—has likely infected more than 37,000 U.S. residents as of July 10, the Washington Post reported on July 16.
