Gubbio, Italy, May 15, 2009--Teams carry heavy wooden statues to the Basilica of St. Ubaldo as part of Corsa dei Ceri, or "Race of the Candles," an annual event in this mountain town.

The "candles," actually large sculptures, are dedicated to each of three saints.

Townspeople select the winning team by the group that carries their candle with the most style and dedication.
