Beichuan, China, April 6, 2009--About 7,000 classrooms like this one collapsed in the May 12, 2008, earthquake, making schools among the hardest-hit buildings.

About a thousand people perished in the collapse of Beichuan's high school.

Many of the schools were built with inadequate reinforcements, prompting public outrage.
