April 27, 2009--Women wearing surgical masks pray in Mexico City's Plaza de la Constitucion on April 26, 2009. Mexican soldiers have distributed as many as six million face masks to slow the spread of the swine flu virus, which has so far infected about 1,600 in Mexico and killed more than a hundred, according to the Associated Press.

Churches stood empty Sunday morning in the heavily Catholic city. Services were canceled to prevent transmission of the new swine flu strain, which sprang from pigs after incorporating elements of the human, pig, and bird influenza viruses.
