Dorchester Academy, Midway, Georgia

This 1934 Greek Revival dormitory is the last surviving building of the Dorchester Academy in Midway, Georgia, which began in 1868 as a one-room schoolhouse for freed slaves.

The campus rose to prominence during the 1960s civil rights movement as a center for voter registration—only to fall into disrepair.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation included the academy on its 2009 list of the 11 most endangered historic places in the United States.
