February 23, 2009--The world celebrated its last hours before the start of Lent--the 40 days of fasting and penance before Easter--with elaborate parade floats, llama sacrifices, fire-eaters, and more. Mardi Gras and the days leading up to it, also known as Carnival, draw millions into the streets to party until the wee hours.
