February 2, 2009--A marine worm from Hawaii is displayed in a screenshot of the new Ocean in Google Earth software, which was launched February 2.

Within the new Google Earth layers, users can explore National Geographic multimedia features that combine data and maps with videos, quizzes, and other interactives.

Sylvia Earle, a National Geographic explorer-in-residence, suggested from the start that the Ocean in Google Earth program go beyond maps: "You need to be able to touch and dive in and see what's there," she said.
