Vilnius, Lithuania, November 29, 2008--Fireworks sparkle over downtown Vilnius at the official lighting of the country's main Christmas tree in Cathedral Square.

For Lithuanians, the Christmas season starts on the eve of Advent, the four weeks leading up to December 25.

Lithuanian priest Ricardas Doveika dubbed this year's holiday the "hopeful" Christmas, due to the recent global economic turbulence, according to the Baltic Course magazine.
