Vienna, Austria, October 26, 2008--A soldier with a dog is pictured during a military presentation as part of ceremonies for Austria's National Day in Vienna's Heldenplatz (Hero's Square).

The holiday marks the 1955 withdrawal of foreign troops from Austria following World War II. With the defeat of Germany, Austria was divided between the Soviet Union, United States, Great Britain, and France. Austria regained independence upon signing the Austrian State Treaty.

On October 26, the country was declared permanently neutral.
