Holdridge's Toad

The Holdridge's toad of Costa Rica is defined as extinct on the 2008 IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, released October 6.

Despite numerous surveys, the amphibian has not been recorded in its rain forest habitat since 1986.

Researchers think the toad might be a victim of a devastating fungal disease that has been linked to widespread declines in the world's amphibian species.
