The harvest festival is traditionally celebrated in rural villages with rest, entertainment, and squaring debts, according to United Press International.

The Chinese government made the harvest festival a three-day holiday for the first time this year as part of a shift from three week-long breaks to more breaks of shorter duration throughout the year.
