New Orleans, Louisiana, August 31, 2008—See you after the storm. Rosemarie Jarreau and her son, Devontay Jenkins, hug their puppies at a pet evacuation center ahead of Hurricane Gustav.

Scores of pet owners took advantage of the centers, which were established to avoid a disastrous repeat of Hurricane Katrina when thousands of abandoned pets perished in flooding.

Pets at the evacuation center were fitted with red collars that match identity bracelets given to their owners for a successful post-storm reunion.
