Amritsar, India, August 13, 2008—Monsoon floodwaters are an unwelcome visitor to an Amritsar family's home during a deluge that swamped parts of northern India.

Monsoon floods have killed more than a hundred Indians so far this year.

The annual rains, which typically occur between June and September, are brought on by changing wind patterns. Though sometimes destructive, they also bring life-giving waters to many parched regions.
