Los Fresnos, Texas, July 23, 2008—A tethered horse braces against heavy rains and high winds from Hurricane Dolly, which battered the Texas coast on Wednesday.

Dolly slammed into the Gulf Coast with winds above a hundred miles an hour (161-kilometers an hour), dumping a foot (30 centimeters) of rain in places before the storm weakened into a tropical storm Thursday, the Associated Press reported.

The storm tore off roofs, downed power lines, and flooded roads, though the levees along the Rio Grande Valley held strong.
