Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, Hawaii, July 4, 2008—Call it Fourth of July fireworks, Hawaii-style.

A bursting lava bubble is an example of the recent escalation at Kilauea, known as the world's most active volcano, whch has been erupting since 1983.

This week massive lava fountains helped boost the flow along a 6-mile (9.6-kilometer) path between the volcano and the ocean, threatening a subdivision, the Honolulu Advertiser reported.
