Mount Everest, May 8, 2008—Chinese climbers display an Olympic torch, an Olympic flame lantern, and flags of China, the International Olympic Committee, and the 29th Olympic Games at the summit of the mountain.

A 19-member team broke camp at 27,390 feet (8,350 meters) before dawn and reached the top six hours later. Tsering Wangmo, an ethnic Tibetan woman, carried the torch to the peak, according to Chinese state media.

China has billed the climb as the highpoint in an otherwise controversial Olympic torch relay.
