Shandong Province, China, April 29, 2008—A police officer walks past an overturned car from China's worst train accident in more than a decade.

According to wire reports, 71 people were killed and more than 400 others injured when a train traveling from Beijing to Qingdao—site of the upcoming 2008 Olympic sailing events—derailed and slammed into an oncoming train.

A preliminary investigation suggests that local officials failed to notify the Qingdao-bound train to slow down, causing it barrel through an area where an additional Olympic rail line is being built.
