Belgrade, Serbia, February 21, 2008A U.S. embassy building in the Serbian capital burns. During the night Serbs protesting U.S. support for Kosovo's independence broke into the building—which was empty at the time—and set fires, which apparently burned one of the protesters to death.

More than 150,000 Serbs have rallied in the streets to in support of taking back Kosovo, a region that many Serbs consider to be the religious heart of their country.

Kosovo declared its independence Sunday, quickly gaining recognition of sovereignty from several European and U.S. leaders.

But Serbia has denounced the split as illegaland Kosovo's struggle for sovereignty is just beginning.
