Quebec City, Canada, December 31, 2007—Fireworks light up the midnight sky at the opening of the 400th anniversary celebration of Quebec 2008.

The year-long event marks the founding of French America—when explorer Samuel de Champlain established Quebec City on July 3, 1608.

The 90-million Canadian dollar anniversary will include a Celine Dion concert and Cirque du Soleil show.
