5. Andean Bear

Also called spectacled bears, Andean bears roam a variety of types of habitats from Argentina to Panama.

The last of the so-called short-faced bears, the species is listed as vulnerable in a new IUCN report released on November 12, 2007.

Poaching, agricultural development, and increasing mining and oil exploration have threatened the long-term survival of South America's last remaining bear species, according to the report.
