Horton Plains Slender Loris (Sri Lanka)

Also called the Ceylon Mountain slender loris, this small nocturnal primate has close-set eyes and pencil-thin limbs.

Its home island, Sri Lanka, has lost half its forest cover in the past four decades, and the deforestation has caused widespread habitat loss for this subspecies of slender loris, according to a new report.

The species was named one of the 25 most endangered primates in the October 27, 2007, report by the Primate Specialist Group of the World Conservation Union's Species Survival Commission and the International Primatological Society, in collaboration with Conservation International.
