Ibaraki, Japan, August 4, 2007—Takashi Sudo of Osaka Sangyo University prepares to drive a car powered by Panasonic's 192 Oxyride Dry Cell AA batteries, at Ibaraki Prefecture Test Driving Course.

The 84-pound (34-kilogram) car is manufactured by students at Osaka Sangyo University with the help of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co.

The car, powered by 192 Matsushita Oxyride AA dry cell batteries, ran at an average speed of 65.8 miles an hour (105.95 kilometers an hour) and a top speed of 75.81 miles an hour (122 kilometers an hour) during the trail run, the news agency AFP reported.

Guinness World Records has certified the car as the world's fastest powered by dry cell batteries.
