Caribbean Sea, August 18, 2007—Crewmembers on the space shuttle Endeavour captured this image of Hurricane Dean.

The powerful Category 4 storm—with sustained winds of 150 miles an hour (240 kilometers an hour) —is headed towards the Yucatán Peninsula, the Associated Press reported. The U.S. National Hurricane Center said the hurricane would grow into a Category 5 before hitting the peninsula and emerging in the Gulf of Mexico. (See Mexico map)
