July 26, 2007—Adélie, chinstrap, gentoo, and emperor might sound like characters in a fantasy novel.

But in reality they are penguin species from Antarctica, where life in a winter wonderland is taking a tragic turn.

Recent temperature increases in the icy continent are impacting some penguins' abilities to feed and breed, creating population dips in species that can't handle the heat.
