Manitoba Province, Canada, June 22, 2007—A tornado touches down near the small town of Elie, about 31 miles (50 kilometers) west of Winnipeg (Manitoba map).

The twister was rated as an F4 on the Fujita scale with winds up to 260 miles (417 kilometers) an hour. The tornado destroyed four homes and a flour mill, but no injuries were reported.

The storm was among seven confirmed tornados that struck southern Manitoba over June 23 weekend, according to the government agency Environment Canada. The region is known as Canada's "tornado alley" because it experiences 60 percent of the country's twisters.
