June 25, 2007—The Arabian Desert's Empty Quarter is so desolate, it's called a desert within a desert.

But adventurers Jamie and Leigh Clarke wanted to cross 700 shadeless, potentially deadly miles (1,126 kilometers) of the vast wilderness on camels—through Oman, Saudi Arabia, and finally to Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates.

Trek along with the explorers as they endure eye-stinging sandstorms, blazing temperatures of 125 degrees Fahrenheit (52 degrees Celsius), and persistent thirst—all for the sake of exploration.
