Hebrew University professor Ehud Netzer announced on May 8, 2007, that he and his partners have unearthed the remains of King Herod's grave, sarcophagus, and mausoleum.

"People around the world are interested in the discovery of Herod's tomb," said Netzer, shown here speaking to reporters.

"We know a lot about Herod because of the writings of [1st-century Jewish military leader and historian] Yosef Ben-Matityahu. Herod's place in history was also very close to the time of Jesus, so it interests the Christian world," he added.
