Allahabad, India, February 27, 2007—Hindu holy men smear each other's faces with colored powder on February 27, 2007, days prior to the spring festival of Holi.

The multiday celebration, also known as the Festival of Colors, begins on the day after the full moon in early March—this year, March 3. Celebrated by lighting bonfires and throwing colored powder and water on friends and family, Holi has great significance for Hindus and is traditionally associated with fertility and good harvests.
