Romania

Romania's first ice church was inaugurated by priests on January 6, 2007, the Christian Epiphany Day.

The church, located in the Carpathian Mountains, took a month to create with ice taken from the nearby Lake Balea. Attendees can stay at an ice hotel next door. While the structure is the first in Romania, it is not the first of its kind. Many other countries host ice hotel/ice church combinations that lure tourists looking for a chilly way to get married or baptized.

Plan on visiting? Buy your tickets soon, as this church will most likely have melted by April.
