Video: Algae Threatening Pristine Florida River

December 28, 2006—Just because it's green doesn't mean it's good for the environment.

A growing film of algae, a result of chemical runoff from farms and houses, is now threatening Florida's Ichetucknee River, which has long been one of the most pristine waterways in the country. Algal blooms are devouring the river's oxygen, choking native vegetation and causing health problems for people and animals.

Hop aboard a canoe drifting down the Ichetucknee, and see why conservationists are doing all they can to preserve the river's rich ecosystem even as human development continues expanding in the region.
