A construction site serves as a classroom for eight-year-old aspiring artist Adel Acea in 1998.

"His assignment was to go in and draw pictures of the [18th-century Casa del Marqués de Arcos] to document the architecture and document the process of reconstruction," photographer David Alan Harvey said.

The mansion is in Old Havana—a United Nations World Heritage site brimming with historic architecture. Foreign investment has recently sparked large-scale renovations in this part of the city.

"There are plenty of falling-down buildings all over Cuba, but they are doing a first-class job of restoration in that part of Havana," the photographer said.
