July 14, 2006—Space shuttle Discovery rests on the launchpad on July 4. Weather problems forced two delays of the mission, and cracks in the foam insulation threatened a third delay. But the spacecraft was finally able to lift off in a historic U.S. Independence Day launch. The astronauts are expected to return to Earth on Monday, July 17, after 13 days in space.
