Video: Illegal Gold Mine Busted in the Amazon

March 6, 2006—Spotted from the air, a gold mine in Brazil's Tumucumaque Mountains National Park was eroding soil, degrading rivers, and poisoning the local environment with mercury. Finding the mine on the ground, though, was no simple task for the park's protectors.

Watch as a boatbound crew uncovers telltale tracks and busts the illicit operation in the Amazon rain forest.
