TIV: A Tornado-Hunting Armored Car

Looking like a cross between a military tank and the Batmobile, the Tornado Intercept Vehicle (TIV) was built to withstand a direct hit by a tornado, providing scientists with a rare peek into a twiser's most destructiveand least understoodzone: the lower 30 feet (9 meters).

Documentary filmmaker Sean Casey recently teamed up with meteorologist Josh Wurman to push twister science further than ever before by driving his TIV into the heart of a tornado. Wurman drove nearby with a caravan of Doppler trucks.
