Some suggest that mature male lions are as large as 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall at the shoulder and 8 feet (2.4 meters) long, not including the tail. But this may be a slight exaggeration. Dewald Keet, the chief veterinarian at South Africa's Kruger National Park, has measured and weighed a large number of adult males. They average about three feet four inches (a meter) tall and roughly six and a half feet (two meters) long.
